About this product
La Venenosa Costa Raicilla is a distinctive Mexican spirit, a wild distillate meticulously crafted on the Jalisco Coast by Master Tabernero Don Alberto Hernández. Unlike common mezcal, this raicilla (a protected denomination) is made from a blend of wild agaves, including Rhodacantha and Angustifolia, harvested from the region's unique terroir.
The agave hearts are traditionally roasted in an earth oven and then manually ground in a wooden canoe with a mallet. It undergoes fermentation in wooden vats before being double-distilled in a traditional Philippino still made of copper and a hollowed-out tree trunk. This artisanal process results in a complex and intriguing flavor profile, offering notes that balance sweet spice with subtle hints of orchard fruit, cooling menthol, and a stony minerality. It finishes with lingering echoes of green leaves and smoke. Bottled at 45.5% ABV, it is a nuanced spirit perfect for sipping neat.
